Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) macros can significantly simplify repetitive actions. One of the most common actions players encounter is changing classes. Unfortunately, some classes have actions or stances that need to be activated immediately after making the change, and it can slip our minds. Here are a few macro tips that should simplify your FFXIV play experience.
Setup: Gear Sets
Before we dig into the FFXIV macros, we first need to create gear sets for each of our classes. This will assign gear for each of your classes and jobs for quick access later.
- Open the Character Menu (C)
- Make sure you are wearing the gear for the class you want to save
- Click on the Gear Set List icon
- Click on the + icon at the top of the Gear Set List window
- Your gear set is now saved
- Repeat steps 2-5 for all classes and jobs you want to quickly access
- Note the number to the left of each entry. This is the Gear Set # that we will reference in the macros
If you change gear while a gear set is active, you can hit the refresh button to save the updated gear.
Changing Classes with FFXIV Macros
Now we can create macros for each of our classes and jobs. This is the simplified version of my Warrior class change macro.
/micon "Soul of the Warrior" item/gs change 1/wait 2/ac Defiance
- /micon: /micon is short for /macroicon. This specifies the icon for the macro. In this case we are changing it to the “Soul of the Warrior” item. Alternatively, you can call “/micon WAR classjob” to set the icon to the Warrior class icon. You can find more /micon options on the lodestone.
- /gs change: /gs is short for /gearset. This changes our current gear set to the gear set number that corresponds with the class or job from your Gear Set List above.
- /wait: This tells the macro to wait 2 seconds. The time interval must be a whole number. You cannot wait 1.5 or 2.5 seconds.
- /ac: This tells the game to execute an action. In this case, it calls Defiance which changes our warrior stance for tanking.
Additional macro commands can be found by clicking the Text Commands button at the bottom of the Macros Window. Make sure you put quotation marks around any action or item that has more than one word in its name (“Soul of the Warrior” needs quotation marks, but Defiance does not).
HUD Changes within FFXIV Macros
Optionally, FFXIV macros allow you to adjust your HUD for each class. I will go more in depth in a later post how to modify your HUD. These are the HUD changes I make when changing to my Warrior class.
/hotbar display 9 off/hotbar display 8 off/hudlayout 1/hud "Scenario Guide" off/hud "Duty List" on/hud Minimap on
- /hotbar display: This will hide (off) or show (on) a specific hotbar. In this case, I am hiding hotbars 8 and 9.
- /hudlayout: This changes the HUD Layout. I have HUD Layout 1 setup for tanking, DPS, and crafting. HUD Layout 2 is used for healing.
- /hud “UI element”: This will toggle individual UI elements on or off.
Combining Class & HUD Changes
The following FFXIV macro shows how to combine changing classes with modifying the HUD and activating an ability. In this case, we change to gear set 1 (warrior in my list), change to HUD layout 1, disable hotbars 8 and 9, hide the scenario guide, show the duty list, show the mini-map, and activate Defiance to change stances.
/micon "Soul of the Warrior" item/gs change 1/wait 2/hotbar display 9 off/hotbar display 8 off/hudlayout 1/hud "Scenario Guide" off/hud "Duty List" on/hud Minimap on/ac Defiance
Other Classes and Jobs
Here are a few macros I use for changing to other classes and jobs. I have one for every option in the game.
Scholar:
/micon "Soul of the Scholar" item/gs change 14/wait 2/hotbar display 9 off/hotbar display 8 off/hudlayout 2/hud "Scenario Guide" on/hud "Duty List" on/hud Minimap on/wait 1/ac "Summon Eos"
Summoner:
/micon "Soul of the Summoner" item/gs change 3/wait 2/hotbar display 9 off/hotbar display 8 off/hudlayout 1/hud "Scenario Guide" off/hud "Duty List" off/hud Minimap on/petsize all small/petglamour "Carbuncle" "Ruby Carbuncle"/wait 1/ac "Summon Carbuncle"
Note that you can change the size of your pets and their glamour.
Blacksmith:
/micon Blacksmith classjob/gs change 7/wait 2/hotbar display 9 off/hotbar display 8 off/hudlayout 1/hud "Scenario Guide" off/hud "Duty List" off/hud Minimap off
That should give you a jumpstart on setting up class and job changing macros. Let me know what you think in the comments.
