Power outages persist in SE Wisconsin following severe storms (2024)

As possible power outages and damage reports come through, TMJ4 News will update this article with the latest.

A couple of hail-making severe storms clipped Wisconsin's southern counties Tuesday afternoon. Another moved in between 8 p.m. and midnight. Then, a final round of storms moved through Wednesday morning. Temperatures will reach almost 70 degrees in the morning before falling back into the 50s during the afternoon.

Tuesday's severe weather comes just days after tornadoes and severe thunderstorms rocked southern Wisconsin. According to the National Weather Service, a total of nine tornadoes were confirmed during the March 31 tornado event. Many in Walworth County woke up to fallen trees and downed power lines after the tornadoes hit areas like Elkhorn and Sharon. Several We Energies customers across southern Wisconsin were without power.

WEDNESDAY:

1:15 p.m. update:

More than 4,000 people are still without power, according to the We Energies outage map.

12 p.m. update:

More than 8,500 people are without power now across all We Energies customers.

11 a.m. update:

We Energies is reporting a new outage near Bristol Wisconsin, bringing the number of homes without power up to more than 2,200.

10:30 a.m. update:

About 390 homes are still without power following the overnight storms.

9:30 a.m. update:

Less than 700 people are without power, according to the We Energies outage map.

8:30 a.m. update:

TMJ4 News has a crew near 20th and Capitol, where drivers are enduring severe flooding.

Plus, the We Energies outage map shows a jump in outages. Nearly 2,000 people are now without power. Most of those outages are around Waukesha.

8:15 a.m. update:

The Hop Streetcar was involved in a crash Wednesday morning near Milwaukee and Michigan. TMJ4 News has a crew on the scene who reported one vehicle and the streetcar were involved.

Major flooding is reported across Milwaukee, specifically on Capitol Drive where roads are closed due to standing water.

7:30 a.m. update:

Nearly 800 people are without power across the area due to storms overnight and this morning.

6:30 a.m. update:

The number of households without power has dropped to about 500 as crews work to restore power across Southeast Wisconsin.

5 a.m. update:

More than 5,000 We Energies customers are without power across Wisconsin. Tree branches are down, and there's some significant flooding across the area.

11:02 p.m. update: Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for the following counties until 11:45 p.m.: Racine, Washington, Ozaukee, Milwaukee, Dodge, Waukesha, and Jefferson.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for the following counties until 12:15 a.m. Fond du Lac, Dodge

The National Weather Service (NWS) says severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Lake Ripley to near Raymond, moving northeast at 70 mph at 10:59 p.m. NWS says half-dollar size hail is expected, as well as damage to vehicles.
